It’s a boy!

April 9th, 2009

Doodle was born today!  A very beautifully marked Tobiano / Sabino boy.  He’s gorgeous!  At 5 am Leah left for work and Elli was pretending there was nothing going on.  By the time Drew was ready to leave for school at 6:15 Elli was laying on the ground.  He came in and woke me up and for about 45 minutes I waited, watched, tried to help.

I called Bobbie and asked her to come help because it was obvious things weren’t going well.  Bobbie came and rescued me, again.  She gave gentle pulls and helped Elli push that big baby out!  It took a while for Elli to decide to bond and we had to encourage it quite a bit.  Neither one wanted to get up and walk around or move.  With more human pushiness we got Doodle standing and nursing!  What a long morning!

Does this baby make my butt look fat?

In March I was checking to see if she was ready to foal yet – doesn’t look like it but she certainly is getting BIG!  She’s very cubby here.

February 9th – blanket coziness

February 9th, 2009

Elli was cold, but probably not as cold as it was in Kentucky. I got a blanket for Christmas so I decided to try it on her. She looked really cute and cozy!

November 2008 – At home

November 24th, 2008

Elli has settled in and as a last moment substitution, fills the gap when Sassie’s leg just can’t make
the ride. Elli was a superstar and did very well for not ever having been in the desert or accepted
the other mares yet. She also had only been ridden by Jacki once before for a short jaunt in Kentucky
at her previous home.

Arrival Day!

October 28th, 2008

Elli arrived today.  She is beautiful!  She has an amazing amount of color.  Her body, even after a long trip with obvious stress & some weight loss, is showing just how stocky & broad she is built.
